This is a delightful story about a flawed young woman. She has word confusion or dyslexia. Adeline has spent six years in the Marriage Mart and refuses to spend another day there. Instead, she tells her father that she wants to spend her dowery on a bookshop in Bath. He does one better by also buying her a small house near the shop.
Addie escapes the rigid mores of London. She is happy, and a year later, she meets Lord Grayson, who comes into her bookshop looking for a book on sign language. He hopes to help his young son since he discovered that Michael could not hear.
Grayson is a widower who has promised himself that he will never remarry due to the betrayal of his wife with his brother. The brother's wife has gone to court to have her son named his heir since Michael is inept and possibly insane. Grayson knows that is untrue, but he needs to disprove it in court.
This lovely story is about people stepping out of their rigid roles to help each other. Because of Addie's dyslexia, she understands Michael's needs.
