From what I've tinkered around to try, is there no way to put your bookshelf on hold without going on "vacation hold"? Basically, I don't want to go on vacation hold, but I don't want any requests. I don't need the credits now and at least here in Raleigh, NC, the PO is already crazy. The last time I tried this, I put all my books on hold, but when I thought I was unholding them, it reposted them. Removing them ALL from their original place in line (some 1.5 years in line!) and putting them back in at the back! Eep! I hope I'm making sense here. I'm on every day, and I check PBS all the time, so I want to get the WL emails (I don't want to go on auto WL). IS there a way that I'm just not seeing where you can JUST put your bookshelf on hold (and be able to unhold it without bumping them to the back of the line) or is it either all, where you have to go on hold completely? Thank you!

Releasing a vacation hold does not put you at the back of the line.  Vacation hold preserves your place.  From the help docs:

How does the Vacation Hold affect My Bookshelf?

How does the Hold affect your Bookshelf?

  • The books that are on your Bookshelf at the time the Hold goes into effect will be hidden from requests.

  • This does not include books that are involved in a Wish List Hold or an active transaction.
  • The FIFO order of each book will be preserved during the Hold; it will not "lose its place in line" to get requested.
  • Books that are already involved in an active request will not be affected by the Hold.
    • Any book request that was submitted before the Hold went into effect will not be affected by the Hold
    • Any book request you submit at any time (before, during or after the Hold will not be affected by the Hold.
  • This means that all auto-emails associated with an active transaction will be sent to you as usual
    • You will still get auto-emails asking if you have received a book that is en route to you 14 and 21 days and 25 days after the book was marked mailed by the sender.
    • You will still get "second" and "third" notifications for previously-submitted requests to which you have not responded.
    • You will still get auto-email reminders to mark your outgoing books mailed before the deadline if you have not done so.
  • Books newly Posted to your Bookshelf during a Hold will be hidden from requests.

What I do is put my account on vacation and then autorequest my WL. Then you can use up credits w/o getting book orders and still move up on FIFO with your posted books.  That's the only way to do it and not lose your place in line. You can still order non-WL books while on vacation.  You would just have to come off vacation if someone wanted to post WL book directly to you.  That doesn't work with vacation and autorequest unless you are #1 in line (learned that the hard way).

Individual hold removes them all from FIFO.  This is so people can post books as they receive them to their shelf but have them on hold until they're ready for them to be ordered.

Vacation hold is for when you want no orders at all.

I don't autorequest my whole WL. Just the ones I want to make sure I get if I'm offered.

When you go to your bookshelf page, click on the PUT ON VACATION HOLD button. You will see a calendar for the start date and the return date. I have put my bookshelf on hold several times with no problems going back to original place in FIFO line.

****VERY IMPORTANT INFO****  DO NOT put individuals pages of books on hold, then you will lose your place in the FIFO line. I did that once on a couple of pages and 100 books then went to the present day. I was so mad at myself as a lot of those books had been on my shelf for 2 years. Oh well, lesson learned and will never do that again.  You MUST put your entire shelf on Vacation Hold and only by clicking that Put on Vacation Hold button. Good luck!

Heather, to answer your actual question....no, there is no way to just put your Bookshelf on hold other than individual hold and yes, when you take them off of hold they go to the end of the FIFO line.  The only option is Vacation Hold and put your WL books on AutoRequest.  Those are your only options.
