How do you manage these two lists?  Do you put the books that you receive from PBS immediately on your bookshelf on hold or do you just keep them on your TBR list and post the books when you finish?  What is the advantage of having the books placed on your bookshelf right away?

Right now I have the books placed on my bookshelf but I don't think I like it.  What do you do?  Convince me one way or the other!

I put mine on the TBR list.  And I think when they are on the TBR list they actually are on your bookshelf on hold until you post them.  Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.  When I am done reading them, then I go to the book on the TBR list and hit post this book.

I would only put it on my bookshelf "live" if there are numerous copies in the system and want to get my place in FIFO.

I'm glad LeeAnne asked, I didn't know that.

Putting them on your TBR does not mean they are on your shelf on hold.

I always select no for putting them on my shelf on hold. I only want to see my actual posted books when I look at my shelf.  Sometimes they aren't postable after I read them or I use them for games.  It's not hard to post them from your TBR.  But I think books should be posted by the ISBN they have on and not from the TBR or from being on hold on your shelf.  I don't compare the ISBN when I receive a book but it's possible that that I've been sent some that don't match exactly.  I've never received the wrong binding before but some books get issued in the same binding with multiple ISBN's.  Also I think having to get the book out and look at the ISBN forces people to have the book in hand and inspect it before they post.

I always just put books I receive on my TBR but not on shelf hold. For me, it's just better that way and less confusing. When you mark a book received, I think that the system default is to add them to your on hold bookshelf. You have to manually it change to "no" so that it does not get added to your bookshelf. Sometimes I do forget to change it but it's easy enough to remove them. Hope this helps.

You are right Mary thanks.  Now that I look closer at my bookshelf the books that I go in and put on my TBR pile through ISBN are not on there.  I have two that I got through the system and put on TBR and those are the ones on hold.  Thats a good point about checking the ISBN though!  I usually do when I post, I'm pretty careful to look over books before I post them.

I always put them on my TBR list but don't put them on my bookshelf on hold.  I only wanna see posted books too when looking at my shelf.  It's only a couple of clicks to get something from your TBR pile posted on your bookshelf.

I post a new book on my TBR list and then on my bookshelf but on hold.  Then when I get done reading the book, I rate it and take it off hold.  Works for me.

BTW, you can set your bookshelf to only show posted books.

I've never felt a need to use the TBR list so I don't have any books on it at all.  I also do not let books be put on my bookshelf because 99.9% of the time they aren't going to be reposted.

Such a variety of responses!

I went ahead and removed all the "hold" books from my bookshelf.  It was bugging me that I could see WL books and autoWL books that I know I won't be getting to for awhile.  I figure if I have all my books placed on my TBR list, when I finish reading them I can just mark them read and post them from there.  With the exception of the books I order for my son, all of the books that I get here are reposted.

I put them on my TBR list.  I don't like them mucking up my bookshelf, LOL.  When I repost them I do it by entering the ISBN instead of by doing it from the TBR list.  That way I know they're posted with the correct ISBN for my version of the book.

I put them on my TBR list as well.

If it's postable after I'm done, then I post from my TBR list, making sure the ISBN matches.

I also add any books I buy.
