Hi, I'm Fiona. <waves hand> I'm a newbie here. I've been reading all the (quite helpful, actually) help docs, and I haven't found mention of something I really want to be able to do. I want to organize my Bookshelf into categories, such as genres. "Why? you may ask. Because eventually my Bookshelf is going to be a long list, and it will fall into two big chunks: (1) horror and suspense/thriller novels that are almost all mass market pb's, and (2) miscellaneous nonfiction that is mostly trade pb's, w/ some hardcover. The list will be hard for people to browse if it's all jumbled together in alpha order by title or whatever. It really needs to be separated into some kind of logical categories--for which the genre classification that PBS already uses would probably be easiest to implement.

(I figure, in the meantime, I should write something in my Bookshelf Header about the mixture of categories.)

I'd really like to hear from other folks about how you've managed to bring some order to your Bookshelf. I read the section on ReSort in the Help files, and couldn't see how any of those sorts would be all that much better. How do *you* sort your Bookshelf? Do you leave it in the default Title mode, or have you changed it into a different order? What works best for you? (Any clever work-arounds you'd care to divulge?)

One last thing, a this-is-probably-dumb question that I just have to ask: When you do a ReSort on your Bookshelf, does it stay that way? I mean, is that how *other* PBS members will see it, from that point on? Just making sure! <smile>

I dont get what your asking. Do you want to reorganize your bookshelf so that it will appear that way to people looking at it? That isnt how the sort feature works. You can resort it for when your looking at it and if your looking at a persons shelf you can search by genre or keyword. You cant really rearrange the shelf though other than to sort it by title or author or date posted. You can add something to your header saying you have certain types of books which can be seen by searching by genre though.

Hi Fiona (waves back) Welcome to PBS!

I've never resorted my shelf but I just went and checked and you can only resort it according to title, author, date or posted. You can't sort it into genre here. Trust me, people definitely find everything they want, lol. Also, if someone is searching your bookshelf for something specific like a title, author or genre they can do that when they're searching your shelf. When you look at someone's bookshelf on the top right you can search by genre or a few other things. You can also resort someone else's bookshelf so you can view it the way you want to as well.

I hope that helps answer your questions. Have fun!
