I am sure this has probably been answered before. I have several books that have been on my shelf for years. Is there anyway to know what number of how many the book is at on the list. I am planning on cleaning out the closet and making a trip to "Got Books" and want to select only the books that have no chance of being requested in the next couple of months.

You can see how many copies of a book are in the system by putting it on your reminder list. But you can't tell where you are in line or how often it's requested.  I've posted books with 100 copies that were requested in just a couple of weeks and have had only copies sit on my shelf for over a year.  So it's really hard to say.

If you need credits, you could try offering a deal.  If you don't and just want space then you might want to just trade them in at the local UBS.

You can find out how many books are on the list, but not where your particular copy is on the list.

You can see the total number of copies available by putting the book on your Reminder List

Just recently I took everything off my bookshelf that I posted the month I started here (May 2009). I figured 18+ months was long enough. You could just decide that you'll remove any book that' s been there longer than 2 years or something.

It's a little frustrating not knowing where your books are in the system, but my philosophy is as long as I have the space and don't have any use for the books I'll leave them on my shelf until they get requested.  I figure that some of the books that have been on my shelf the longest have spent all that time working their way up to the front of the line.  I'd hate to think I removed a book that had spent one or two years working it's way up to the top just to remove it right before it was going to be requested!

I do check the threads in the Book Bazaar and if someone is requesting a deal on heavily posted books that I have on my shelf, I'll often PM them to offer a deal.  I've gotten rid of several heavily posted Nora Roberts, Lisa Gardner and James Patterson books this way.
