Okay, I have to admit I'm a bit lost. I've been using PBS for several years now, and I understood it all just fine until after the semi-recent restructuring. Now I'm thoroughly confused. I thought my bookshelf was the books I had posted - the ones I have available to swap. But when I go to my bookshelf, it's full of books that I don't plan to get rid of. If I click to view my "public bookshelf," then it looks (I assume) like it would if I were someone else. In other words, I don't have the option to remove a book that I no longer have available. How in the world am I supposed to use this area of the site? And where do I go if I just want to manage the books that I have available to swap? |

When you go into your bookshelf, near the top it says "view" and has a drop down box. In the drop down box you can choose to view Posted Books, Unposted Books, or All books. I guess you could probably delete your unposted books if you don't want to get confused again. Hope that helps. |

From The Help Center: take note to the "on hold". When you mark a book received, you must check that you want it removed from your shelf, or it goes on automatically...
Your PBS Bookshelf is the list of books you have Posted to offer for swapping. It also contains books you have received from PBS (these go "on hold" onto your bookshelf when you mark the books received, unless you choose not to do this at the time of marking the book received).
You can get to your PBS Bookshelf from the menu under My Account on the main toolbar at the top of the site, or by clicking the My Bookshelf tab when you are in the My Account view. Please note: The Vacation Hold link at the top of your Bookshelf is NOT an indication that your bookshelf is on hold. It is a link to the Vacation/Hold page, where you can schedule and apply an account hold. How to use your Bookshelf:
Note: When you view the listing for a book in the database that is currently posted to your bookshelf, you will not see the button. Instead you will see the option to mail the book to a friend; this is to prevent members from requesting books from themselves. Others who view the book listing in the database will see the button, and will be able to request your book.
Allows you to sort (display) your bookshelf in various ways. The default display is alphabetically (A-Z) by title. To sort your bookshelf, click this button and make your choice from the options that come up. Your new Sort will remain until you ReSort again, even if you log out of your account in the meantime. Sort options include:
Allows you to search your bookshelf by author, title, ISBN, booktype, genre or subject. Click this button in the yellow bar at the top of your bookshelf and enter a keyword in the field that comes up, then click Search. Allows you to delete items you have checked (clicked to place a checkmark in the box to the left of the item) on your bookshelf. You can delete multiple items at once. Click to place a checkmark in the box to the left of as many items as you wish to delete, then click Delete Checked. Once deleted, the book cannot be restored to your bookshelf without reposting it. Note: If you have clicked "I cannot mail" on a request, or have clicked "Cancel Order" on an active outgoing transaction, or the system has canceled your transaction for failure to mark a book mailed by the deadline, the book will have been automatically removed from your bookshelf. This will download your bookshelf as a CSV file to your computer's hard drive. This will take you to a printable view of your bookshelf, with the book title, author, ISBN-13 and ISBN-10 listed. Book cover images will not be on the printable view. Click Print at the top of the printable view to print. Allows you to write a Review of your book for other members to read. this has been moved to the Book Details page for each book; click the book title on your bookshelf to get to the Book Details page. This feature allows you to send a book to a friend in a not-for-credit transaction.

Thanks! The "excess" books seem to be my "to be read" books; I have been telling the system to remove them from my bookshelf "on hold" when I receive them. |

If you have them on your shelf but on hold - once you've read them - it's only a click of the button to add them to your active shelf. I like that feature. Ruth |
