In the summer of 1963 in Boston there were a series of murders. Middle age, single women were being strangled in their homes. There was no sign of forcible entry. Around the neck of the victums were knotted nylon stockings or other articles of apparel. Each woman had been sexually assaulted or molested. No clues were found, nothing had been stolen,There was no discernible motive. The victums were,so far as could be determined, modest, inconspicuous, almost anonymous leading blameless lives. Beyond the mystery of their deaths, there was something terribly sad and pathetic about these victums who apparently knew or were unafraid of their muderer, and let him in to their apartments and did not even put up a stuggle before they were finished off. It was ovious that the murder was insane. As a result, Boston was a city near panic. copyright 1966
