he had a one night stand w/ her years ago only to find out she was married.... now he finds that her family is in trouble and blackmails her into getting married.... she was reallly a widow all those years ago and felt guilty about having sex after her husbands death and thats why she ran out on him.... in thier new marriage you can see how jealous he is of the dead husband, so he acts out makiner her think he is just a jerk... when really he loves her... this was a good book
