I'm tired of going through tons of boxer names to find those that have Historical Fiction on thier shelves.  What do you guys think about telling each other who we are so we can find each other by name?

Please specify HISTORICAL FICTION or HISTORICAL ROMANCE or BOTH!

I'm not a "Boxer" but I would think it's hard to find people with enough HF on their shelves to box. These books seem to disappear pretty fast - just my opinion.

I haven't advanced to boxer either, but it would be a good idea to find and friend those in the same genres. Where's Karla when we need her. She sure can find them by the box load.

I tried boxing for one year, but it wasn't for me.  Not nearly enough HF and very little HR that I was interested in.  My own shelf is mosty HR, and most of the better stuff is gone.

Sorry, I'm another HF hoarder -- my husband would be thrilled if I were a boxer instead, as long as the boxes were all outgoing.smiley

If I had some HF and HR's to unload (note the word UNLOAD), and I did want to box, could someone please explain how it works in simple terms?

It's actually pretty simple Cathy...boxing is just trading books.

You go to a boxer's book shelf and pick out the books you want and add them to the list.  The system notifies them that you want them and they look over your shelf to see what they want to trade for it.

Both of you pay for the books to ship as usual and viola!  No credits exchanged.

I've been a boxer for 2 years now and I admit I've just recently started hoarding my HF's. Up to now I've traded.  And you're right...they are far and few between.

I always thought it would've been nice to somehow have a box group of just one type of genre though in case you found something at a thrift store, etc. that you already had and could exchange for something you didn't.

Boxing can turn into deals, too.  Requester  wants 5 books, receiver only sees 2 she wants from Requesters shelf, and so a credit is added to even out the value.  That kind of thing.

There just wasn't enough commonality in interest in most of the boxes I requested or received.  Sometimes a deal worked, but usually it was just "sorry, I don't see anything I want" -- either my response to their request or theirs to mine.  Or I was requesting books I was only marginally interested in to fill up the boxes ... and have never yet read the books.  When the year expired, I didn't renew.

HF books do seem to disappear quickly.  Try to check out the book postings in HF - Sept. books, etc.  Sometimes I find them as ARCs or unpostables (sometimes I wonder why they are but order them anyway).  I know some of us share books with others to read.  I don't mind but if it's a popular one it goes quickly, too.  Just located an Anya Seton book I had never seen at a thrift store but it is unpostable by pbs guidelines so just I just keep trying.
