I am considering joining Box o Books.  I notice it says you must take BOB to the post office?  I'm wondering why?  This will make a big difference for me.  I live very rural and don't get to town very often.

You have to take BOBs to the post office because PBS printable postage isn't available for them yet. And usually they are over the 13 ounce limit for mailing from your mailbox, because they are multiple book orders.

Wow You are fast!   So It sounds as if I could print postage from paypal and still mail them from home.  It would just not be PBS Postage.

Thanks.

Yep, Sharon.  I use Stamps.com for my BOBs and don't have to go to the PO.  :)

I thought there was a dodge using the "send a book to a friend" PBS feature.  You post some common book, indicate you want to send it to the BOB trade partner, enter the weight of the BOB box, print the label with postage.

I use the PBS postage for BOB's by reposting one of the books and choosing the "mail to a friend option".  You just have to add the weight of the other books and packaging and mark it received when it's delivered.  Much faster than going to the PO.  Although my PO changed the blue box and now the larger packages don't fit in it anymore and I have to go in anyway.

I use the "mail to a friend" feature too (thanks to Mary's helpful advice:P) - which you can either do by randomy picking something from your shelf to use and then reposting it later, or just reposting the ISBN#' from one of the books in your BOB, and then selecting that one to mail.  It always seemed silly to me to get the package tracking for BOBs, and then have to stand in line & buy the postage anyway.  Plus the people behind the counter would half the time get confused about how I got that tracking label for 18 cents and why the postage wasn't on there too..:P  One time they were actually passing it around to everyone back there until it got to somebody who had actually seen it before and knew what was up.  Using the mail to a friend feature doesn't keep me from having to go inside the PO if the box is over 13oz - I think that's a Homeland Security law/thing - but the PO will allow you to just leave items on the counter if the postage is all on there & correct.  They do here anyway.  I think *technically* anytime you drop something off there, they're supposed to ask the "fragile, liquid, or perishable" question, but it may be that they only have to do that by law if you're buying the postage there, or it may also be that they're so used to seeing me in there 3 times a week, they already know I'm just mailing books:P

I use Paypal postage for BOB books.   I can use both PBS and Paypal for over 13 ounces and drop them in the box w/no problem.

It sounds as if some of you all still go to the post office to drop your package off.  My carrier will pick up packages as long as I have already paid for postage online.

Sharon---- who really likes her postal worker.

I always go to the post office, but I guess it's because it's right around the corner on the way to walmart, so I don't mind, since we practically live at walmart, lmao.  It's also right across the street from the local used book store, and I'm there once or twice a week, so I don't mind too much.
