A little confused here, I made a box offer for three books. The person chose four tho, and then accepted my offer, so now I can't add a fourth to MY box. I have never done un-even trades unless they were discussed before hand in a PM. Now Im not sure what to do?! The person also asked for several novels, while I only asked for harlequins, and that is totally cool, but I would at least like an even trade in books.

Advice?

ETA: I just decided to accept the offer and hope I don't get burned.

I would PM the person and ask them for another book to compensate.  When you make a BOB offer and they put books in their box and hit accept, you are supposed to hit accept again to say that you agree with the trade.

Thanks Mary,

I sent a PM but haven't heard anything back. I hope I didn't sound rude in my first post, i was just bewildered by the whole thing, lol. I have been a boxer for almost a year and a half and have NEVER had this happen, was weird. Because the other member hit accept (not saying they did it on purpose, may not have known) the system wouldn't let me make any changes to the box. My choice was accept and only get 3 books, decline and miss out on my books, or PM the person and hope they would compensate (they still might.)

I hit accept and am hoping the other member will let me choose a 4th book before they mail. This whole thing is making me rethink the BoB membership though, will have to wait and see I guess.

Angela, I didn't know that once I hit accept, it locked up the other person's options.  I've done several uneven numbered trades since becoming a boxer in jan (some where I got an extra and some where I sent one).  I recently had someone request two large hardback books and all I wanted was mass market paperbacks and he had several I wanted so I put three in my box and hit accept.  I figured he could add another or we could do an uneven trade.  Now his snarfy PM maes more sense as I didn't realize I had taken away his option to add another book if he chose to. I don't know why it would cause you to rethink your BOB membership because of one swap that might not even be an issue, but I certainly hope it works out for you :)

Hi Heather,

Thanks for the good wishes!

I honestly didn't know about this either until it happened, lol. I have done un-even trades, I don't mind that really.  Just don't like that it wasn't my choice this time, lol. I may not have even found a 4th book to add to my box from their list, but I didn't even have that option. Still no response to my PM.

I guess I have been rethinking the boxer thing for a while. This just sort of added to the cons side on my pros and cons list so to speak.

I have had a hard time finding people to trade with. I read romance and I have a lot on my shelf. I have noticed though that a lot of people who have the books I want on their shelf (romance) won't trade with me because they don't want anything on my shelf (romance.)  I got turned down quite a bit, and it made me hesitant to make offers for trades. I kinda had to search for other romance readers and hope they had what I wanted, lol.

I still have time on my membership, not saying I won't re-join, just saying I will think on it first.

I do love getting those boxes in the mail though.  ;)

ETA: Spelling, need more coffee .... :)

Hi Angela,

I didn't realize that once I hit accept it locked the other person's options either.  I thought you could still make changes, and both traders would have to re-accept after those changes.

I have also done uneven boxes, both with me sending extras and me receiving extras.  Please don't let one snafu keep you away from boxing!

You can still make changes - While you can't add any (right away), you should be able to delete any of the books they've requested from you, and they need to re-accept for the trade to go through.  I did this just today (I couldn't find one book).

ETA: If you couldn't make any changes at all, I think there must have been a glitch.

ETA2: I think you could delete one they requested from you, make your additional request, then readd the book they requested - making it even.  Complicated, but it would work.

Thanks Jo,

I didn't even think about removing a book! (duh, lol) I just thought I was stuck, so I accepted because I wanted my books.

I am happy to say the other member let me choose a 4th book with no problems through a PM. So it all ended okay, I think the whole thing just threw me because it had never happened before.

Thanks to all for the help!

Every now and then there's a glitch in the system.  I had someone accept a box one time with only 1 book in his box and 2 in mine.  When I PMd him to confirm, he was having trouble adding another book to his box for some reason.  So I just sent it along and it wasn't a problem.

Overall I have found boxers to be the friendliest, nicest people!
