Book Reviews of Breaking Point (Troubleshooters, Bk 9)

Let me start by saying I've really enjoyed the other books in this series, but this one was pretty bad! Where do I start? With the fact that Gina is a very immature 22 year old chasing 40-something Max? That instead of the probably intended sexy romantic devotion she comes across as scary nympho stalker chick? That she actually gets in confrontations with Max's nursing staff, when she has no apparent education or experience of her own?

The beginning of the book takes place while Max is in rehab for injuries. He repeatedly asks Gina to leave, but Stalker Gina is sure he reallyreally loves her. That he's reallyreally just protecting her. After he asks her to go, she strips, hops into his bed and they have sex, while he tries repeatedly to tell her to leave. If you reversed the roles, say a young woman in rehab asking her male friend to leave, and he did this - he'd be up on rape charges. Stalker Gina never quite gets that she's always initiating, that Max has actually proposed to another woman, that he doesn't want a relationship with her and has told her this. Nope Stalker Gina knows that Max is her guy. Whether he wants to be or not.

I don't know whether Brockman intended to write Gina as the mentally and emotionally unbalanced stalker that she is in the early part of the book, but seriously - didn't anyone edit this? I just didn't see them as a viable couple for anything other than sexual attraction.

A very good conclusion to the Max & Gina story. The book contains lots of action, romance and good endings. I really enjoyed the story, and Suzanne Brockmann is a very good writer.

This is the 9th book in the Troubleshooters series. This is the conclusion of the Max & Gina story that started in book 3 "Over The Edge". This book also has what seems to be the conclusion of the Molly Anderson & Dave Jones (AKA-Grady Morant) story which started in book 4 "Out Of Control". There are no members of Troubleshooters Inc. or SEAL Team 16 present like previous books. FBI Agent Jules Cassidy is along for the ride and brings his wit & cheeky attitude to keep everyone going.

I know this book received many great reviews. But this was a book I couldn't get into. I've read many Brockmann books but this story kept jumping back and forth between 18 months before present day, to four months before present day, then present day, then back again and forward again. The jumping time periods in the major character's lives was disconcerting. Cuts down on the forward flow and the tension that needs to be built in a book such as this about terrorists and kidnappings.

his book, which once again finds sexual sparks popping amid a hailstorm of bullets, focuses on the reunion of fierce FBI agent Max Bhagat and the much younger Gina Vitagliano. The two met in 2001's Over the Edge when Gina was beaten and raped by terrorists aboard a hijacked plane. Now, the unlucky heroine-innocent bystander is in peril again, but Max and his resourceful field agent, Jules Cassidy, another of Brockmann's regulars, are on hand to rescue her and her friend Molly from the mercenaries who have taken them captive. The source of all the trouble is David Jones (aka Grady Morant), a former Special Forces soldier who's wanted dead by the kidnappers. The romance between Jones and Molly, which was established in Out of Control (2002), adds another layer to this already meaty novel and ensures that the book contains enough sizzle to earn it a place on summer reading lists. However, it's Brockmann's zesty writing style and skill at creating dynamic, larger-than-life-yet somehow very human-characters that will earn it a permanent place on many readers' shelves.

This is one of the worst books I've read in a long time. Firstly, I do not like Brockman's style of writing at all - always tongue-in-cheek and facetious. I couldn't decide if she was trying to be funny, but she's definitely not funny. Second, the "romance" part is ridiculous - for example, they are in a life or death situation and the man does not take the "opportunity" to kiss the woman. Really??? Is this the time to be romantic? And third, the book is so predictable. It is obvious from the get-go what is and isn't going to happen.

This is the first book of Brockman's that I've tried reading and will definitely be my last.

I’d been looking forward to Max and Gina’s story for a really long time and while I enjoyed the book for same reasons I enjoy most of Brockmann’s books, I didn’t love how this reunion played out. I’m posting spoilers so I won’t go into a lot of detail. Suffice it to say, Max and Gina’s attitudes, reactions and reactions to each other were mostly annoying to me. They’ve been in love with each for YEARS and this is the their reaction to each other after not seeing or speaking to each other in over a year?

Phenomenal book! Suzanne Brockman's Troubleshooters series will NOT disappoint!

Excellent story. I couldn't put it down.

This is Max and Gina's story. At first I thought I must have skipped a book in the series, but then I realized there were many flashbacks which made the novel both interesting and confusing. Once I understood the way time flowed I had an easier time with it. Gina is kidnapped with Molly Anderson and Max, along with familiar characters Dave Jones (Grady Morant) and FBI agent Jules Cassidy travel to Indonesia to rescue them. Satisfying conclusion to both the stories of Max and Gina and Jones and Molly.

I loved this!

If you like a good mystery this has it. Could not put this book down.

Very intense. Keeps you interested and wanting more!

My first read of this author but it won't be the last.

A tale of suspense with realistically complex and conflicted characters.

Great book! Suzanne Brockmann's books are on my must-read list.

Too musch gratuitous sex. I'm not a prude but I like my mysteries to be about a good plot, doesn't need sex to hold my interest.

I really like her Seal books. This one is very good.

Ms. Brockmann is back on track with this latest installment.

Love the SEALS! I'm waiting on the next one

This is a continuation of the characters in Brockmann's FBI/ counterterrorism crew. Kept me interested and fleshed out the characters even more.

Lots of suspense!

But when Max hears that the love of his life, Gina Vitagliano, has been killed in a terrorist bombing, nothing can keep him from making a full investigation--and retribution--his top priotity. At the scene of the attack, however, Max learns that Gina is still very much alive and in jeopardy.

Very good...this book was very hard to put down and read in one setting!

max and gina's story with some jules thrown in. Suz never disappoints

When FBI hostage negotiator Max Bhagat discovers that his long-time love, Gina has been killed in a car bomb in Germany, he races to Berlin with FBI agent Jules Cassidy to identify the body and bring her home. When he discovers that it is not her, he sets a chain of events in motion to find out where she is and to finally profess his love. Max was finally successful in driving her away 17 moths earlier with his fears about their age difference, and Gina left him to join relief workers in Africa with her friend Molly (who was introduced in "Out of Control"). It appears that Gina was in Berlin to acquire a passport for Molly's husband, Grady Morant, who is an Army deserter turned former Asian drug lord's lackey.

When Jules, Grady, and Max reluctantly join forces to find the women, they are taken on a whirlwind trip all the way to Asia. But what appears to be a simple case of kidnapping leaves more questions than answers, particularly the motivations of the man who spirited the ladies away from Germany.

Interesting characters, characters from "Gone Too Far" making appearences. Good read.
