I am in love with this book. I am in love with Greg Keyes. I must have this series.  Anyone else read it? No spoilers please as I am getting these from the library so it may take a while.

So, because I am in need of a new, well-written fantasy series... tell me why this is so good!

I think it's good because it focuses more on nature and I dig the character development. It doesn't involve orcs (not that i mind those) and it isn't very Tolkienesque. The writing is smart and funny.

It is (to me) fairly light reading, with plenty of wit and humor to keep the pages turning, and characters one falls immediately in love with. :)

Greg Keyes is one of my few keeper authors.  I haven't finished that series, but it's waiting for me on my bookshelf.  I liked The Waterborn, too.
