As the last book in this wonderful series, the Civil War has ended and it shows the aftermath of this destructive event.

As Jeff and his father, brother, stepmother, and stepsister return home to what was their hometown before the war, they realize things are not as they were. Though Leah's family is nicely settled as Leah's brother returns from fighting, Jeff's family is faced with the scorn of many local men for their former support of the Confederacy.
Jeff's older brother is also faced with having a wooden leg and not being able to work much, and so feeling ashamed. As both Leah and her sister work to support the men they love, love blossoms and together, both families find happiness as there is a double wedding, a birth, and the promise of another marriage....
