The last book of hers I read was brilliant, this one not so much. It was boring and redundant and I had a hard time making myself finish it. Up until about 80% (I read it on the kindle) it sucked. The ending picked up and was alright but man the rest of it was terrible. Nothing happened, except a bunch of whining. It was really a shame too because the idea was so clever. The chapters alternate between the author being bothered by the lead character coming to life in her house and trying to find out what is going to happen to him and trying to steer his own story, and his actual story. It should have been really good but all they do is whine and complain about how pathetic they are. Very disappointing.

I seldom write a review, however, this book was very different and I found myself unable to put it down. There was not any great drama or events. It is about the internal struggle people have in their heads while the world is spinning around them. People who are used to Karin Fossum's police detective will find this a very different type of book. Very quite and unassuming, but with the internal dialogue that always draws me to Ruth Rendell. When I read these authors I always feel that I have read a book about real people. I read a lot of action, mystery and scifi so this book was a nice change of pace.
