Ok, I'm halfway through The Bronze Horseman (A and T have just been reunited after T and D were evacuated .. .trying to be vague and unspoilerish) ... and our heroine is greeting her long lost true love with ... a pout?!?

All I want to do is strangle the heroine and chuck the book out the window.  Good grief, love or don't love, but get a spine and get on with it -- there's a war on!

I know a lot of you loved this book -- is there improvement on the horizon, or should I quit now?  I've already decided not to read book 2, unless something amazing happens before this one ends.

I've even gone and read the original Pushkin poem, but I still can't get past the whole "spineless female sulking her way through love and war" concept.

Yay? Nay? My copy is unpostable, so telling me to stop won't help anyone's Wish List. devil

I think that book is 80% good historical fiction and 20% pure, unadulterated smut.  I worried about chafing, my goodness.

Having said that, I think that i fyou dont' like the main character, go ahead and chuck it.  She doesn't change a huge amount, IIRC.

If it's not working for you chuck it. There are a lot of flaws (gawd, that repeptition), and I was able to get past it (or skimmed) but if it's not working time to get out. A lot of book #2 is a rehash of the story from Alexander's perspective.

Well, sure, Colleen -- clearly Mimi knows I prefer a more even smut-to-smarts ratio of 50/50.  devil

Thanks for the advice, and you're right about the repetition.  Maybe one of you could sum up the whole trilogy in a few sentence in a PM? ;-)

For me, the book got better the more pages you got into it, however, I did not care that much for book 2 and 3. After saying that, I have been known to chuck a book (with no guilt) after 50 pages, because I just knew that it was not for me. So my vote is chuck it, if you don't like it, there are books out there that are calling your name.

Not a problem - it just bemused me. I'm thinking, "again?"
