Just what does it mean when you become someone's buddy? Boy that reads silly but seriously is it like when you have a circle of friends I mean if someone asks you to be their buddy what does that mean? I mean as far as I know I could communicate with all of your unless you block me( if that is at all possible on this site) so this buddy list what does it mean? Please explain. I am new to how this site works. The parameters of it I mean if you will there is more to it than exchanging books or it could be just about exchanging books. Any info would be great since I have received my first invitation to be on someone's buddy's list and I wondered what it entails. |

Hi Liv and welcome to PBS.

I put "tags" on my buddies so I know why they are a buddy. So they are labeled by what type of books or why they are a buddy. That helps me keep clear who has the children's books, the local buddies, and such. I think you can send a group email based on a tag group. |

Most of my Buddy's are from games and the Love/Romance forum where I hang out regularly. A few are they because we did a trade and may want to do so again. A few are there because I have some of their WL books in my TBR. |

Most of my Buddy List are people whom I know or knew elsewhere before joining PBS--from various online book groups and such. The rest are people that I've encountered in the forums who seem to share my reading tastes, or requests I've gotten from people--most of the time I have no idea why and later forget who they are, but I'm assuming it was either because of a good trade or something I've said in a forum somewhere. I don't really "use" my buddy list much, to be honest. Cheryl |

1. It means someone likes you. 2. It means that person likes you. 3. It's a list of all the people who like you. |

LOL, Tome! |

I have several buddies who share my tastes and we are aware of what's on each other's wishlists. Often when I am trolling through books at the thrift store I will spot something that is on a buddies wishlist, buy it and then post it directly to them, and they do the same for me. For me the beauty of posting to (or requesting from) a buddy is that you know that they will accept the request in a timely manner and it won't just sit there and time out. Also I get lots of ideas for books I might want to read from both their wishlists and bookshelves. |

It means your buddy(s) will appear on your Buddy List. Which makes it much easier to find them to pm, share book info, check each others wish list (many buddies do this before posting FIFO)...stuff like that Also, some members have private settings on their profile, but more information is often available to those on their Buddy List. And, buddies sometimes get invited to play in swaps or games with like-minded members. Last Edited on: 10/1/09 4:36 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I don't know much about the buddylist either. I just happened to click on it a few days ago and there was someone listed as my buddy. I have no idea who she is because I don't think I ever swapped with her before. I don't mind, but how does one get on someone elses buddy list without knowing. |

Could it be your tour guide? Or do you have it set to automatically accept buddies? |
|||
|

Tour Guide is a possibility. IIRC there are settings for buddy list, a choice of automatically accepting all requests or manually accepting each request. |

1. It means someone likes you. 2. It means that person likes you. 3. It's a list of all the people who like you Orrrrrrrr . . . it could be that it means the person you want to befriend is like me - got their buddy thingy turned to auto so they don't have to bother with saying yes or no. |

Not in my case, Cozi. I've never done the befriending. |

Liz, ditto on what everyone else said. Another thing is, you can put 'yourself' on your buddy list. I did that and write notes to remind me about great books, certain authors and great swappers etc. to myself. It has really worked well. |
