Well, I had two books on my wish list and the sender said they mailed them on March 9th but I finally got them today and see they were not even mailed until March 30th, three weeks later!   I can try to understand a week or so later, but three?  Sheesh.  I don't mark anything mailed until I actually go to the post office and its in their hands.  Its just frustrating b/c they were on my wish list so I obviously wanted them and I could have had them read in those three weeks or gotten them from someone else, kwim?  I did ask the sender what happened so there may be a perfectly good explanation (that I can't think of, lol).  At least I got them so I am happy about that

Lisa, I had that happen to me also and the person who didn't send them until AFTER they had been reported lost just said hey, life happens, get over it. Not a person I would ever deal with again obviously!!

Lisa, are you determining the date of mailing from an actual computer printed postal stamp or from a postmark?

Oh geez, Elaine!  I hope I don't get a response like that!  Theres no reason to be rude.  I tried very hard not to be rude in my message to the sender saying something like "I had given up on these coming, thought they were lost, see you mailed them quite a bit later than you said, something must have happened, right? glad they are here finally thanks"  The transaction was to be said lost on Monday so I was waiting for that to happen so I could get back in line for them.

printed postal stamp or from a postmark

What exactly is the difference?  I'm referring to the sticker that is on the paper, the one that prints from the post office.

Well if it was stamp from a postal clerk then the date mailed is probably correct.  If it was stamps then those don't always get cancelled out right away. Sometimes they never get cancelled out and sometimes it somewhere enroute.

Well it sounds like the books go to you 2days after being mailed so maybe they upgraded them to 1st class.  They could have gone back to the sender for some reason.  They could have given them to someone else to mail who flaked out on them.  Either way they should have sent a PM to let you know they were indeed mailed.

I had one of the 1st books I ordered go lost.  It was the 1st deal I ordered in the Bazaar.  The lady had given her husband the books to mail. He stuck then in the trunk of his car and forgot about them. She found them 3 wks later. But she PM'd me.

The person who sent my books after they were reported lost just hadn't gotten around to mailing them. There are rules about this and PBS told me I did not have to give him a credit for the one book I had gotten in the meantime but I did send him the credits for the other three books. If I was sending 4 books to someone I would certainly make sure they got mailed. This person said PBS wasn't all that imortant in his life and he either put his account on hold or left, I can't remember which. My real problem with him was that he did not PM me to tell he had forgotten to mail the books but that he had mailed them. Can you imagine one of us not PMing someone with a big apology and asking if they still wanted us to mail the books?

I live in WI and they were coming from MI and it seems that when they come from a neighboring state it usually only takes 3-4 days instead of 5-6 with other places.  Thats why I was getting so frustrated when they didn't show up the first week, then the second etc.

Thats why I feel kind of bummed out b/c  all I was looking for was a PM saying "sorry, these got lost in my car" or whatever happened.  I know that happens and its fine.  I was acutally going to PM the sender today and see if something had happened but the books showed up.  I should have just PM'd them sooner.  Sigh

Elaine -> luckily PBS has changed their rules and if something like that happens now, the sender is out the credits. No communication + books that go lost + mailed more than 2 weeks late = no credits for them now. I don't usually mind giving credits for the books as long as I haven't gotten the from elsewhere, but self-centered, rude people tick me off.

That sucks!!! At least you go the books! I normally pick the latest date to mail out my books, but chances are I mail them within a day or do of it.

Melanie it was the same rules then. I just felt I had gotten four books and would feel bad about keeping them without giving him some credits. If I had known how rude he was going to be and that he was going to leave I woudn't have given him any credits. I guess I would have because then I would have felt guilty if he left thinking it was my fault.

Lisa, I understand completely, an apology fixes things up for me just fine. We all make mistakes.

This person said PBS wasn't all that important in his life and he either put his account on hold or left.

HUH??? What kind of Philistine is a person who would say that PBS isn't important?!?!?!? Good riddance!

LOL

That really sucks.  Some of you are saying that if a book is late or whatever you don't have to give credits for them.  So far I have only ordered 2 books as I am new here but the second the person I requested them from accepted the credits were taken from my account.  So how is it that you don't have to use the credits if they are late?  Does the sender give them back?  Kim S.

When a book goes lost the requestor gets their credit back. NOrmally if they show up are required to go into your Transaction ARchive and mark them received. But the rules say if the book was mailed more than 2 wks late that you don' t have to mark them received.

Kim, we aren't talking about a book being late we are talking about a person who lied and said they sent the books and then didn't. If your books are just late and you mailed the books when you said you did you have nothing to worry about. PBS even tells you not to order another book right away or you could be out two credits. You will get your credit if your books are a little late but don't worry about that either it doesn't happen all that often. Glad to have you on PBS.

I heard back from the sender and she was really nice saying she forgot to put postage on it the first time so the books came back to her and then she couldn't remember what books they were so she couldn't PM me and let me know what happened.  At least she apologized so thats nice.  So glad it wasn't a rude reply and something logical happened (this time, lol)

I don't buy this. All she had to do was look to see what books she marked as having mailed, and then she could have PM'd you.  At least she was nice otherwise though.

Dawn--I didn't quite buy that either b/c unless you were mailing out like 20 books at a time, you would have been able to see that these had been mailed out the longest and not marked received.  Oh well, stuff happens I guess and at least there was an apology

If books arrive on time but were mailed really late then you mark them received and fill out the survey noting the late mailing date. PBS will send a friendly reminder to the member to get their books mailed on time.

I don't buy that "I didn't know which books they were thing either". All she had to do was look up the books she had mailed and match up your address. It shows which state they are going to in the Books I've Mailed tab.  She was just too lazy to do it or hoped you wouldn't notice. I've had a few books arrive to me Priority mail just before the Lost date.  No PM. So you know they forgot to mail then did Priority in hopes they wouldn't get called about it adn I do appreciate the effort to get them there before the lost date.  But I also would have been just as find with a pm stating they mailed them late and not to reorder them when they go lost.

Maybe it's possible that the book got returned to the sender the first time out for some reason?  And then the member had to resend it?  That has happened to me, but I always PM the person to let them know that the book is starting out on its journey again.

Geesh.  It was a reasonable mistake.  She probably just didn't think about being able to reprint the labels to get the address and figure out who to PM.

My requested book arrived with a late postmark!

If the book was marked lost, the  postmark was within the week before it was marked lost, AND you received 2 copies of the book, you don't have to mark the book received that was mailed late.  (If you only receive one copy, you do have to mark it received.)

Or, when you received 2 books, you can mark the late book received (to note the late postmark) and then request your credit back.

Wow! I can't believe someone would mark something mailed, then mail late and then not even give an explanation. I recently accepted an order, picked the last day out and even wrapped the books to mail on the date I said I would. Last minute, I had to work and couldn't get to the post office (I was sending 3 books -- two for credits and a freebie -- so I had to have it weighed.) I PM'd the recipient, marked them mailed that night because I did say I would mail by that date. Then, first thing the next morning I drove over to the post office in the a.m. (I suppose I could have waited to mark them given the two-day window) but I felt that I had to contact the requester.  I must be Catholic -- lol -- I worry about mailing about 12 hours late and someone else is sending things out three weeks late.

ETA: I even bought the optional DC so the requester could see that it was definitely mailed the VERY next day. Of course, I just checked and the DC number is still showing no action. But it was only mailed about 10 days ago and was going Media Mail.

Liz, that made my day! Very funny. I was without internet yesterday due to winds that were so high they took out both our Internet and TV sattelites. A very sad day, no PBS except by iPhone to mark two books as received. I intend to make up for being off an entire day by spending double the time on today (LOL).
