I recieved a nice note about bumping and would like to share because she's right, it's not fair to bump your post more than once a day...

"Hi, I just thought I'd write you and let you know that you are only allowed to "bump" your thread once per day in the Book Bazaar. Bumping a thread is when you post in a thread you've created. You are only allowed to post in your own threads once per day, to make it fair for everyone else for their threads to be seen. For instance, when you post a thread saying what deals you have going on, and then a few hours later you post again in that same thread, it pushes down everyone else threads and puts yours at the top. So more people will probably see your thread, which isn't fair to the other people who follow the rules. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I just want everyone to have a fair chance at their threads being seen. If you have any questions, feel free to Private Message the owners of PaperBackSwap.com if you are still unsure about the rules."

The other rule that sometimes gets missed in the sticky topic above is that each person should only make one topic per day:

(1) Members should post only one "bookshelf advertisement/"order from me" post per day. You can combine different genres into one post, or "spotlight" multiple books from your bookshelf in one topic.

This also causes other people to receive less of a chance of their topic being seen.

And you are right, Coco, the person that sent your note was indeed very nice. My compliments to them on their wording :)

I also did that and didn't realize that saying "thank you" to another member for requesting your books is bumping. Ooops! I thought when you post "bump" was considered bumping only. I guess I won't be doing that again in the future! Guess I'll PM requestors and say thank you instead. Sorry guys!

Yes, she was certainly nice in her post to you, but then, you've been quite gracious yourself in taking it as it was meant, and then going so far as to post it all here for others to take note of.

Trust me, these "nice" things can and have gotten pretty mean when that was never the intent.

Compliments to all of you!

Sherry,

I have a question. Can we bump once a day as well as start a new thread/topic once a day, or is it either / or?

Since someone very nicely brought  this to my attention last week, I've been more careful, and I can see there's more to learn. But I've also noticed that many are doing this all day long. They need to get the message also.

Can PBS send a newletter "alert" message to members clarifying this as simply as you did in your post here? Frankly, the rules can get long and complicated.

I'm new at this and had no idea what "bump" meant until now. I'm apologizing to everyone for any unfairness on my part.  Sorry.  I'm really sorry.
