i mark books mailed after i put them in usps hands. i have had alot of books in my car to be mailed and keep getting side tracked. i feel horrible about this but thats just what hashappened. so they timed out of the system and were cancelled (i know i could solve this problem by priting postage having usps pick up, etc. etc. but i didnt do that this time so thats not going to help THIS situation).
so, should i just let the cancelled orders go..unwrap the books and repost them? (are they automatically reposted or not?)...or should i pm the members and ask them to reorder the book?
im confused b/c i know alot of stuff here is automated so im wondering if these members are going to automatically get these books from someone else?? im just not sure.
thanks for any advice..and yeh, lesson learned. :) |

If the book was a WL book and your's is the only one in the system they might appreciate a pm and will probably reorder. Any book that times out in the system is taken off of your bookshelf so you will have to repost it. Also any book that is in the FIFO will move on to the next person so DO NOT SEND YOUR BOOKS unless they are reordered. If you had already sent them and they timed out because you forgot to mark them mailed, then I'd try to contact the recipients to have them re order from you since the books are on the way but with FIFO it's hard. WL books are easier to do that with. |

My suggestion is just to repost the books. PM the members who were to originally recieve them with an apology. Then wait to see who requests your books and send them to those people. Some may go back to the original requestor, some may not. I've been on the other side of this situation and was confused as to why the member never mailed the book and then proceeded to repost it (the request went back to me again) - because she did not PM to explain. So, those would be my suggestions. |

I don't now what mailing option you are choosing but I always choose the furthest out date and then you still have 2 days after that to mark it mailed. I normally mail the next day but just in case something happens (or I'm waiting on others to accept orders) I want to have that cushion. I would PM the original receivers if you can and let them know what happened. I'm sure they still want the book and you can go directly to their WL (if it is on their WL) and post it to them. Then you don't have to repost and wonder if the same person will request the book (not knowing if it is a WL book) |

I agree with Lisa - just repost the books and as a courtesy, let the requstors know what happened. They may have had their request go to another person, in which case they'll probably just leave it that way, but if not, they might order again from your shelf.

Don't just mail them out. If they are available in the system then the orders have been passed on to someone else already. The requestor probably hasn't even realized this yet. Did you offer a deal on these books? If you did this makes a bigger problem. PM the person so they can cancel the 2nd order that's not coming with any freebies you offered. If you let a request time out it removes them from your shelf because it assumes that you cannot send these books out anymore. If you have a bunch time out they might suspend your account thinking it's no longer active. A lot of people join and then just forget about their shelf. Make sure you let people know what happened, especially if any were offered as a deal. Then repost the books. If it was a WL books, offer to repost to that person's WL. |

You are correct, a lot of it is automated and so that is why I say, Don't send them! If the receiver's request went to the next person in line, it will be THAT second person who earns a credit. PBS rules state that the receiver DOES NOT owe you a credit, if you missed the mailing deadline, but mailed it anyway, and your book shows up at their house, so you will be out a book and a credit, and the cost of postage, which is a big bummer! So, yes, unwrap them, and repost them on your shelf. Then PM each person and see if they still want the book. My guess is that most of those books went to the next person in line, so you'll be outta luck, but at least the receiver will not be left wondering, and you wont be out books and credits. If you had those books requested so quickly, they'll probably be re-requested soon. |
