On a remote island off the coast of Seattle, a man lies buried alive, miles away, his captor--the elusive killer known only as Mephisto--listens through a transmitter to his victims dying screams, waiting for him to reveal a secret only he knows. But learning the secret is only the beginning of Mesphisto's maniacal game.
It is a good story and well written, however, a little slow in a couple of places.

This was an exceptional modern thriller that would have been five star were it not for the fact that I feel it was poorly edited. The story was quite brilliant and backed up by extensively researched historical background, a fact which I truly appreciate, as it's hard to find intelligent fiction in this genre. Unfortunately, the integration of the storyline and the compelling historical text was awkward, and impacted the flow of the narrative. Nonetheless, Burnt Bones was a tale well-told, a police thriller with investigations in both Canada and the Northwestern US.

The story was a little slow going for my tastes.
