very witty although the language is a little dated - a terrific insight into Britain in the 30's too

A wonderfully written mystery that is not violent per se but intricate in the true Lord Peter Wimsey style. It is too bad that Ms. Sayers did not write more with the two characters as man and wife, as the dialog between them is wonderful. If you like English mysteries you will like this one.

Ah, the perfect honeymoon spot for Lord Peter and his lovely new bride. All starts wonderfully until a body is found in the cellar. So much for taking a vacation from crime solving! Another great book in the Lord Peter Wimsey series. Dorothy Sayers books are all great, I liked this one especially well with all the twists and turns.

This is a wonderful mystery from one some consider to be the best mystery writer of the twentieth century!

Absolutely boring! It takes over 100 pages just to discover the murder. Meanwhile the reader is treated to the mind-numbing details of chimney sweeping and chimney pots. Anyway, all's well that ends (finally). A saving grace is the old Lord Peter penchant for a good bon mot and the quoting of poetry between Lord Peter and Inspector Kirk as they attempt to outdo one another. Bunter continues to be the interminable "Jeeves". Neither one of her better murder mechanics nor better novels.

After an intellectually and emotionally gruelling courtship, Vane and Wimsey decide they are meant for each other and marry. In this installment, they honeymoon -- or at least attempt to -- while remodeling a decrepit Elizabethan country house and solving murder.

Murder must be investigated by Lord Peter and his new bride, Harriet Vane. Dorothy Sayers mysteries are situated in post WW1 England -half the fun of reading them is making sense of obscure literary allusions. Sayers was a contemporary of Agatha Christie. Look through my list for other Sayers books.

If there were a higher rating for Dorothy Sayer's books I'd give them that higher rating. Everything she writes, from the Lord Peter mysteries to her religious essays to her splendid translation of The Divine Comedy, is excellent. The mysteries are worth reading and re-reading for their comedy of manners even when one knows just "who did it."

Mystery lovers and those who like Brit Lit will enjoy this romance between two classic characters from the pen of Dorothy Sayers. It's helpful to read the books in chronological order -- I'd suggest not reading this as a stand-alone, or you'll miss a lot of the background. If you haven't read Sayers before, she's a fun writer -- you'll be hooked!

Witty writing, great characters and an interesting plot. My favorite bits are the letters and journal entries at the beginning--so much fun to get dozens of perspectives on Wimsey-Vane wedding. The remainder of the book lives up to its stellar opening.

Sayers is a "must read" for all mystery people. These books can be easily read out of order....her English dialoge is a treat!
A HONEYMOON Is AN UNFORTUNATE OCCASION FOR MURDER, ESPECIALi.Y
WHEN LORD PETER WlMSEY
IS THE BRIDEGRooM,.
Murder was hardly the best way for Lord Peter and his bride, the famous
mystery writer Harriet Vane, to start their honeymoon. It, all began when the former owner of their newly acquired estate.
was found quite nastily dead in the cellar.
And what Lord Peter had hoped would
be a very private and romantic stay in the country soon turned into a most
baffling case, what with the misspelled
"notise" to the milkman and the intriguing condition 0f the deadman -not a spot of blood on his smashed skull and not a pence less than 600 pounds in his pocket.

"BUSMAN'S HONEYMOON HAS
EVERYTHING-MYSTERY; COMEDY, LOVE, AND DRAMA-ALL SERVED UP IN
