This is an excellent book. Kilbourne offers a smart and easy to follow analysis of the kinds of advertising that surround us almost every moment of every day, with a lot of ads demonstrating the themes she talks about. She also shows the damage that this does to our psyches and personal relationships. My only complaint is that I wish she had offered some concrete suggestions as to what we can do about the seemingly dire situation we seem to be stuck in.

This is a scholarly book with ample endnotes, bibliography and a good index. I wrote a nice review of it but the file is corrupt, so that is the way the cookie crumbles, as I have taken it to the lobby of the VA Hospital. Dr. Kilbourne is interested in how the rascals in the advertising business plot to touch us personally.
