In Part I our heroine is an American Red Cross worker in France at the end of World War I. It begins her love affair with a French cavalryman and aristocrat. Part II fast forwards to World War II and here the pace picks up. And, like Ibañez's The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, is mostly about the civilian side of the war. I almost gave up in Part I, but somehow pushed on. I'm happy that I did, as Part II is well worth the effort.
