First, this is a lovely story with spectacular illustrations on each page. It is a delightful fairy tale to encourage multiculturalism. However, I have a problem with the choice of pet. Encouraging children to think they can pet alligators is dangerous. I've been in a couple of states with alligators loose, and there are significant signs warning visitors of petting or getting close to the reptiles. They can and do kill.

Parents should emphasize that this is a fairy tale, not something children can do.
