The vast, rolling grasslands of Montana were a cattleman's dream come true and in 1878, free for the taking. His head filled with bisions of prosperous new life, Benteen Calder left Texas with a group of trusted hands, a hers of longhorn cattle and his new bride - beutiful, spriited Lorna Pearce.

Lorn's sheltered ujpbringin hadn't prepared fer for the homesickness, the demanding work, or Benteen's unbending rules about how a wife should behave. But soon she was able to do a mman's work if necessart and she learned to share Benteen's dreams And much to his delight, she was unabashedly passionate in her lovemaking.

While raising two boys, building a new home and tending an ever-growing herd, the Calders thought they had found happiness. then the past returned to haunt them, raising jealousies and threatening their life together.
