Ever since I was little and would read my story books, I have loved the art work that surrounds the letters at the beginning of the chapters! I only recently found out  what this is  called or that it even had a name.  I hope that some of you may have some pointers for me or some books that may get me on my way.

Thanks all :)

Calligraphy is not always ILLUMINATED, but calligraphy books will help you to that point.  Medieval lettering - prayer books, other religious subjects can have examples of illuminated lettering in books. There are probably even histories of lettering !!   I love it too.  >  I would search first under the keyword: calligraphy.
