I tried to post a book to someone's WL by clicking a book on their WL and then clicking Post This Book.  It went to another member.  I'm guessing that I should click post this book at the WL list page instead of the book detail page.

How can you cancel the Wishlist Hold?

Yep, That was it.  I needed to click post this book at the WL list page.

My question still remains the same, How can you cancel the Wishlist Hold?

I don't think you can cancel it.  You're right about the way you posted it though.  You should have posted directly to their WL page if you wanted that person to get it.  Since you clicked the book first, it went FIFO :(

Can I cancel it after the person that has it wishlisted accepts?

I have already promised it to the other person.

Yes, you have to wait until they accept the offer and then cancel it.

Oh, good question!  So if promised to another person it needs to be added onto their wishlist on their page, is that right?  Otherwise it just goes to whoever is first in line...

Exactly right, Rachel. And yes, Marilyn, once the person accepts just cancel with a polite explanation.

The way to tell that the book IS going directly to the person you want it to go to is that if you click Post this book directly on their wishlist page (NOT the book details page) when it brings up the posting screen, it will say in a green bubble at the top, "You are posting this book to Cheryl R." before you actually hit 'I can post this book' so you can back out at that point if it doesn't say that. If you are just posting to FIFO, that information isn't there.

Rachel; In case my answer was too brief that was a link to help instructions about posting directly to someone's wish list.  Just click this blue link http://www.paperbackswap.com/help/help_item.php?id=113

The correct method for canceling is to cancel by the sender (me), not the requestor, right?  Just double checking if my assumptions in the following email that I sent are correct:

Hi _____;
I am so very sorry but I posted this book (____ _____) to you by mistake when I was trying to post it to a Buddy's wish list. I am unable to cancel the transaction until it is accepted by you.

Don't cancel it on you side because you will lose your place in line and I wouldn't want that to happen if you have been waiting in line a long time. If you accept the offer then I can cancel it on my side and you will retain your place in line.

Sorry again.
Dan (for Marilyn)

Moving right along, the requester accepted, I clicked that I could not mail the book and gave the reasom why.

The book is still on her WL.  So all is well.

If I were the person you cancelled on I'd be steaming about now...

I really hate, hate, hate that the system allows people to completely bypass the whole FIFO system like this.

Why should that person be steaming?  She's still atop the WL.  Except for my mistake and subsequent honesty about the reason she wouldn't even know.  I think you mean you are the one who is steaming.

The Buddy that I posted it to had ordered two-at-a-time and when I looked at her Wish List I could make it three-at-a-time.  So technically I didn't "completely bypass the whole FIFO system".  I only bypassed 33% of one shipment out of almost 200 shipments.

Compared to perpetual threads in the genre forums this is very mild in my opinion.

I'm glad we can do this.  Being able to save postage by posting more than 1 WL book to a person at a time is a big help in keeping the postage costs down.

Everytime I post a WL book to FIFO I check out their WL and see if I can post something else to them.
