I am slowly finding my way around PBS.  I stumbled upon the transaction archive for my account - is there any way to find out why specifically books I've requested are "canceled by sender".  I'm hoping it's just because I must have books from a smoke-free environment and for that reason they aren't a match, but I'm beginning to wonder since it's happened now with a few books.  Thanks for your help.

I don't have any RC's so I'm not positive about this but I  believe that if someone declines a request because of RC's then it doesn't show up as canceled by sender and they should give a reason for declining.  If the request is accepted and then canceled, I believe the only way to find out why is to send the member a PM.  I know I have done this before when I thought a book was in postable shape but found damage when I pulled it out to send.  I also agree with Jeri, from everything I've seen here, you have to be very careful about the way your RC's are worded.  If you say "only books from a smoke free enviroment" you will probably get a lot of denied requests because that covers things like wood smoke or the smoke that occasionally comes from my stove.

If a transaction is cancelled, it will show up in your Transaction Archive and you can see the detail there. If it was declined due to Requester Conditions you can go to your Club Communications and the emails you got from the site will be there. If the sender stated a reason you it would be in the email.

If your RCs so say "I must have books from a smoke-free environment" you are in for a lot of turn downs unfortunately. Many people get their books through the site or at UBS so they will not be able to attest the the history of the book and will turn RCs like that down. If you only mean to say currently in a smoke-free environment, then you want to say it that way. Saying it that was does open you up to a few stinky books, I just got one thats smells fairly strong, but its the only one I've gotten that way.

If the requests were declined because of your conditions, then they won't appear in your Transaction Archive. Most likely these were just cases where you requested a book that has multiple copies in the system and for whatever reason that particular sender clicked "I Cannot Mail" and your request rolled over to the next sender.

I just had one cancel because someone posted one of my wish list books and then never responded. Thus it had no explanation other than "they never responded" (and now their account is on hold, go figure). If that was also the case for you then you wont see an explanation.

They only show up in the transaction archive if they were accepted at some point. They don't show up if they time out w/o being accepted or they are cancelled.   I think it only gives an explination if the book went lost. Other than that it just says cancelled.  It happens.  I've cancelled a few because I accidentally damaged them.  I canelled one because of a death in the family that mailing books out a low priority.  People have various reasons.  I wouldn't worry about it.

Now if you are getting turned down alot because of your RCS-then your RCS need to be reworded.  Many people won't accept RCS if they seem vague, confusing or too subjective.  Most will not PM because you can't do that until you accept and then's it's a pain if it has to be cancelled.
