Ok, Ive had to cancel two order recently, to my chagrin. For the first one, a rather large, heavy, hardbook book, I realized when I wrapped it that the binding had come unglued from the cover and it was therefore unpostable.  (Dont know how I missed it when I checked it the first time.)  I canceled the order and PMed the guy, explained that to him, and said that if he still wanted it, to just PM me his address and I would send it to him as a freebie for zero credit.  I havent heard back from him yet.

In the second case, I was supposed to mail the book by Friday, and got real busy during the week, so Friday came and I hadnt mailed it yet.  I live in Louisiana, and there is a major hurricane expected to hit us Monday/ Tuesday, and previous experience from hurricane Katrina shows that mail gets unreliable. I was afraid that if I mailed it, it would get lost in the mail. I cancelled the order, PMed the person, explained this, and said that when the hurricane had past, I would post it to her account first to see if she still wanted it, and if she did she could choose a freebie from my shelf.

Did I handle these two situations right? This is the first time Ive had to cancel any orders...

You were very generous in both situations but, as far as #2 goes, I am unsure why you just didn't mail it Friday afternoon or Saturday (today). You have a few days grace period from the date you state you will mail by.

you do have 48 hours after the mail by date to mark it mailed, however I know that things are very crazy in LA right now (not sure where you are).

I think you handled them fine and I'm sure they appreciate the heads up and the explanation

I would just like to add that I hope you & yours stay safe during the upcoming weather in your area ... and hopefully all will be well once the storm passes!

I was supposed to have gone to New Orleans the week after Katrina hit, obviously didn't make it. Still hoping for a trip down there at some point!

Best wishes,
Melissa

Unfortunatly, I just had to pm 7 people about books that I was sending this morning (I'm in La too). When I got to the post office this morning they were shut down and preparing the building. I'm hoping that everyone that I contacted will understand. I have no choice in the matter and will have to deal with it next week or when I get internet and mail service back. Carley, we can't help what Mother Nature throws at us. Gustav got really big overnight and it wasn't expected so soon. People are in major panic mode right now. Stay safe.

Carley, you might want to put your account on Vacation Hold and put a note in your profile that you're in a hurricane area, until the crisis is passed.

Stay safe,
