Has anyone read A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller, Jr.? I picked it up because it is a highly rated, classic science fiction. I read part one, and it just doesn't do anything for me. Am I missing something?

I thought it was ok - not great.  It does get better after the first section.

It's been a long time since I read it , but it was a hard read for me.  Maybe it gets a little better after the middle.

Thanks. I think I'm going to set it aside for a while, come back to it later.

I have read it a couple of times. I was taken with it from the first. In my book it easily qualifies as in top ten sci fi novels of all time.

I really liked it also. In my opinion, it is a classic.

My dad loves it to death (didn't like the sequel though; I haven't heard anyone say the sequel was very good), but I never got past about 100 pages. (Granted, I only tried once, and I was like 15 and not a very patient reader. . .)

I finished the book. It did get better after the beginning. I can see why it is a classic. Probably not one of my favorites, but okay.

My husband adores the book and it's sequel, but I didn't get into it as easily.  Seemed like it was slow to start, and extremely dark (even for my tastes, which are pretty dark to begin with).  It did pick up towards the end though, and I can see why it'd appeal to other people - it just wasn't my style.
