In the 1920s, while running his own advertising agency, Foster began writing self-instructional art books. The books were first produced in his home in Laguna Beach, California, where he wrote, illustrated, printed, bound, packaged, and distributed them himself. In the 1960s, as his product line grew, Foster moved the publishing operation to Tustin, CA.
Foster was a dominant force in the development of affordable art instruction books. His goal was to help people all over the world to develop their art skills easily and economically.
Foster died in 1981 at the age of 90. He is remembered not only for the wonderful art instruction books that are his legacy, but also his warmth and dedication.« less
