I just posted this book -- Villains Victorious by Martin Greenberg & John Helfers (eds.) -- and it didn't show up on my Bookshelf.  But the details page says the book is on my Bookshelf. So I looked at my Public Bookshelf: sure enough, it's there. Even the #s are different:  64 books on private Bookshelf vs. 65 books on public Bookshelf.

So I'm scratchin' my head, trying to figure out why this book would show up on one view of my Bookshelf but not the other, when I didn't have any held books or any other manifest differences between the two lists. Then I noticed that Villains Victorious is listed in the system without an author field. It doesn't have something wrong in the author field -- e.g., the name of the publisher -- it has no author field at all.

Now my public Bookshelf is sorted by Title, so it's got Villains Victorious right where it goes, as the only V title. My private Bookshelf, on the other hand, is sorted by Author. As far as the system knows, this book doesn't have an author. So I did a resort on Title. Sure enough, Villains Victorious appeared. And the # of books on the shelf changed from 64 to 65.

I tried switching back & forth between sort-by-author & sort-by title: the # of books went UP to 65, DOWN to 64, UP to 65... & so on, depending on the type of sort. Isn't that freaky? Or am I just easily impressed? <grin>

So I guess I'll be filling out an Edit Book Data: form to create an author field for this now-you-see-it, now-you-don't little oddment of nature.

Fiona,

Your post intrigued me.  I don't pay that much attention between My Bookshelf and the Public Bookshelf.  Your post made me look at mine.  Hmmm 92 on one list and 93 on another.  I managed to figure out that it was something on the first page.

Of course it is.  One of the books on the first pge is WL'd so it doesn't show up on the Public Bookshelf...lol.

At least I found something new and figured out what was happening!

Yup. Books with no author listed don't show up on your bookshelf when you sort by author. Which does make it really easy to figure out which ones you need to submit a book edit on...
