I was taking Celebrex and really liking the relief I was getting from the pain in my hip and back.

Then I began getting really terrible heartburn almost every time I took it.

I got off the Celebrex (and of course the pain is back) but I'm still having problems with the heartburn.

Yes - I've seen the doctor and it IS heartburn.

I've been taking Mylanta for the heartburn but find it tends to give me diarrehea.

Anyone else had that problem with Celebrex?

And does anyone have any suggestions on what to do about heartburn that just won't go away?

I took Celebrex a few years ago for a short time, and I've had heartburn too (actually GERD), but I'm not sure if I had it because of the Celebrex.

Anyway, I've taken lots of prescription drugs for the GERD, but now whenever I feel an episode coming on, I just take Prilosec for the recommended time (which I think is 2 weeks) and it works really well.  So if you haven't tried it yet, maybe it would help you out - without any side effects :)

Hi Cozy.  I take Celebrex occassionally, ONLY when I need it. The doctor told me it was ok to take that way. I didn't want to take it every day. No, it doesn't give me heartburn.

I used to have lots of heartburn.  What helped was losing 27 pounds.  Also, like Susan's post above, the doctor told me about Prilosec and it works wonders.  You must take it for two weeks, actually the doctor told me to take it for three weeks.  It's really a wonder drug for heartburn.

My doctor prescribed Protonix for my GERD.  It is a miracle drug!!!  I have only had heartburn a few times since I started taking it.  I was suffering daily (to the point that I couldn't even sleep).

My doctor has me taking Prilosec which is an OTC version of Protonix and it is, too, a miracle drug when taken with NSAIDS like celebrex.

I agree with GeriDoc.  I took Celebrex for years and developed severe acid reflux.  I now tale Prilosec daily and it changed my life.

I have been on Celebrex for 6 months now with both pros and cons. It has eased the pain in my hands and knees TREMENDOUSLY. I am now able to walk up to 10 miles a day sometimes! But, the side effect for me has been weight gain. I have an appt. tomorrow and hopefully will confirm that the pills is what is making me put on weight. I walk 4 or 5 days a week, weight train, elliptical, stepper, etc. I get exercise most days of the week for 45 to 90 minutes and yet I am steadily gaining while cutting calories and trying to lose! I have not had any heartburn at all or any other side effects that I am aware of, just the weight gain. And I have tried skipping a pill for up to 2 days and it is too painful for me to do! I feel it so bad in my hands if I miss even one day, but two days is almost like I never started taking it at all! Does anyone else have these kinds of issues or this amount of pain relief from Celebrex? I'm also worried about taking it long term, with all the bad I've heard. Has anyone been on it for a long time with or without consequences?
