Berkley Medallion PB No. 425-02626; Edition July 1974. Simak was a Grand Master of the SFWA and almost all of his novels and short stories are well worth the reading. The style is ruralist, an emphasis on country settings and peoples, usually sympathetic aliens, rarely horror or fantasy, a quiet frequently wry sense of humor. In this story, Earth after centuries of space travel has become the graveyard of the human race; a writer returns to Earth to compose a description, and discovers that there are forces abroad that seek to prevent him. Why?

This is a really good far-future post apocalypse book. It was a real surprise. I think it was written in the 70s but it doesn't affect this book's quality or entertaining value. I read it in one night!!!!

Basically after humans destroy the planet, about 10 thousand years later, humans have returned to Earth, but only for burial. The descendants of humans who fled to the stars return to "mother earth" to be buried. Earth is one huge cemetery. Follow one man and his friends on his journey to find out what is beyond the cemetery gates!

I'm sure this is a great book, if you like science fiction fantasy, which I do not, so I didn't get into it at all.
