Chang and Eng (born 1811, died 1874) is a fascinating story based on the lives of the twins from Siam. They lived fascinating lives and were the first celebrated conjoined twins and the inspiration for the term "Siamese twins." The story follows them through their childhood in Siam, escaping death at the hands of the King of Siam, their world tours in sideshows, coming to America as "celebrities", and finally marrying two sisters from North Carolina and fathering 21 children between them. It is not a book that I would normally have picked up to read, but I am glad that I did, fascinating! http://www.paperbackswap.com/book/details/48349-Chang+and+Eng

I read it a couple years ago. It really was an interesting book.

The author just recently wrote a new book that is getting pretty good reviews.  I will have to move Chang and Eng up on my TBR pile.  Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the tip, Dawn,  I will have to check to see what other books he has written.  I liked his style!

I read this book and then sent it to my identical twin sister with a note that said, "we were so close to being born like this!"
