My mother-in -law is letting me  borrow her kindle fire for the summer.  She told my husband she charges it with a phone  charger.  My phone  charger "fits" but  it was plugged in all night  and still has "12%"  batter left.    how do you charge your fire?   Can I find  chargers in stores or do I need to order from amazon?   Rushing to work now  but  I REALLY wanted to bring the fire to the gym tomorrow .   Thanks for the  help.

My phone charger and Nook charger are interchangeable--just a standard USB chord and wall charger plug-in.  I have one at work and the other at home, and charge whichever needs it at the time.  I have only one suggestion: Check to be sure the battery status shows "charging" when it's plugged in, and wiggle it a bit if it doesn't to see if it catches.

Some cases prevent certain cords from fitting in the charging hole properly. The cord gets stuck on the edge of the cover and does not go deep enough. I have one cord that I need to shift the cover to fit in, and two others where there are no problems. I'd check that it was in deep enough by looking for the charging icon. Or go to the settings page, which should list the % of charge.

I too have had issues with my Kindle Fire charging.  I've only charge with an Amazon brand charger and even got a 2nd charger thinking it might be a faulty charger  and have tried many different locations as far as ac/dc plugs in my house.  It just recently started not charging fully and I don't charge until the 15% battery life left thing comes up so it not like I charge before I need to.  I have found if I use an extention cord with numerous other items like my cell or a bluetooth being charge it's even worse.  I have no idea what to do I think it might have something to do with the memory being maxed out on the Kindle.  If you find out let me know-all I know is it is frustrating as all heck!

I never wait til the battery is that low. Just a personal preference. I did reply in the other thread with some suggestions of things to try. You can check the memory of your Fire by touching the gear at the top, then More, then scroll down to Device. You will se Application storage, Internal storage, and % of battery remaining. I don't have a ton of games on mine but my application stoage is about 3/4 full.

I use my regular Kindle cord to charge it, usually, and other types of charges work fine, but I would not recommend using an extension cord.

You can buy a charger at most stores that sell Kindle  they are $20!  I think they take the same cord as K3.  No they dont come with Fire which I think Sucks!

My Fire came with a cord for charging. It's a USB cord it didn't come with. I haven't needed one, yet. That's what wi-fi is for.
