"I walked toward the terrace, and there ahead of me half way up the steps was a girl. She wore a long dress of some striped material and her jet black hair, caught at the neck, hung down her back. We were seperated by less than twenty yards and she must have heard me for she turned to look. She was very pale, with delicate features...but it was her features that intrigued me for she showed no surprise or concern, yet neither did she offer any type of greeting or acknowledgement.

She then turned, went up the stairs, and turned right on the terrace. The rhodedrons blocked my view of her.

I then realized there were no rhodedrons, nor anything to block my view of the girl, yet there was no girl either."

Cover says this is an Walker British Mystery.

I found the story plot interesting but the writing style extremely dry, and Britishy. I have put the book down several times, I just can not get into it.
