Several years after BETWEEN THE THUNDER, the nemesis of that book is back. After the Civil War, the Confederate soldier Wilson has become leader of a large band of outlaws. However, Wilson has an abiding hatred for anything named Mallory and Ben Morgan.

At the opening of the story, Bob Wilson and his thugs have already descended upon Ben Morgans ranch and tried to kill the rancher, his wife (Ryan Mallory Morgan) and their children. He is thwarted and only kills four, including Jim Carne, another retired Confederate soldier working on the ranch. However, Wilson promises to return and kill everyone.

On Wilsons trail, Sean Mallory enters Two Springs, Texas, and finds that Wilson has already killed the sheriff and injured his deputy (the sheriffs daughter, Casey Saunders).

Like Ryan Mallory, in the first book, Casey Saunders wears trousers and is very competent at many things. Casey wants to join Sean while he is trailing Wilson; Sean doesnt want the responsibility.

In Fort Worth, Sean hears about the hanging that will take place the next day of Ty Donaldson. Ty was one of Bens friends and worked on Bens ranch for a time. However, he was a restless person and soon decided to go out on his own. Soon, he became a deadly gunfighter.

Sean knows that Ty is an ethical gunfighter; he would never need to shoot a man in the back. Before long, he finds out his opinion is correct; the father of the victim is powerful and demanded the hanging.

After springing Ty, Sean realizes he cannot make Ty leave. Now there are 3 looking for Wilson and his large band.

There are lots of twists and turns to this story. I enjoyed it even more than the first book! The most interesting part to me was Tys metamorphosis. It was extremely well-done! Enjoy!
