Hi, I'm a homeschooling grandma in Florida. I know how to navigate the Deprtment of Education site in my state, so I think I can help you as I have a working knowledge of the system here. I don't have much time right now to research this for you, but the general rule of thumb is go to the Department of Education of your home state and navigate the site for information. I found a link of non-public schools at eh Louisiana Depart of Education site. I would imagine that if you enroll your child in a private school, it is up to the private school policy how they teach and place your child. I do know there is a law in every state that your child has the right for appropriate testing for placement by the public school system, even if they are in or will be in private school. Here's a link for starters: http://www.doe.state.la.us/lde/directory/1758.html Let me know how things go. I would like to help.

Hi, I read your post again. Are you asking if a child can be homeschooled and the homeschool be considered as a private school? If that is your question. What I would do is go to theLouisiana Department of Education State Statues.
Again, I can help you later.

Here's a link to the LA laws: http://www.hslda.org/laws/analysis/Louisiana.pdf It appears an ASD kid would be no different than any other HS'ed kid. You'd have to contact your local Dept of Education about HS'ing and also, if s/he is on an IEP in public school, that will have to be re-worked for the private home setting. Thanks so much! Yeah, I'm wanting to homeschool my son as a private school. I just checked out the website HSLDA. It will cost over $100 to sign up though, but what an awesome site! |
