One of the best in the series. I couldn't put it down. The emotions Ms. Ward wrote into the characters were amazing. Plot was tightly written. Love the foreshadowing at the end. This series is still strong after 15 books!!!

OH MY GOD! This is the best one yet. I was in tears for more than 1/2 of the book and on the edge of my seat. Impossible to put down! Can't wait for more! Romance, sorrow, love, battles, heart break, surprises..........My heart can't take much more!!!

Xcor has been captured by the Black Dagger Brotherhood and sentenced to die for treason. The Chosen Layla loves Xcor and fears for his life. When she lets it be known that she has been meeting with Xcor, the revelation has explosive results. Qhuinn, the father of her twins, accuses her of treason and refuses to let her see the children. Qhuinn's actions fracture his relationship with Layla, Blay, and many people in the household.

I really wasn't looking forward to this book since I've never been much of a fan of Layla. Her character has improved in the last few books but I wasn't sure she would make a great heroine for the series. I'm happy to say she proved me wrong. Layla has grown from a subservient Chosen to a woman who will stand up against her family for the man she loves. Xcor is another character that took a little while to like. His character has done a full metamorphosis since he was introduced. I was happy to see Layla and Xcor finally have their happily ever after.

As usual, Ward has multiple plotlines and points-of-view in her stories. Layla and Xcor's story involve many other characters, especially Qhuinn and Blay. Their relationship takes a turn because of Qhuinn's over-the-top behavior. He does something in this story that I still find it hard to believe that everyone would forgive and forget. Another character pulled into the fray is Tohr. I didn't really understand his involvement in the situation or why he felt so strongly about it.

Trez is still mourning the loss of his mate, Selena. When he sees the new waitress trying to get a job at his brother's restaurant, he faints. She looks exactly like his lost love. We also get to see what Throe is planning, possible problems for V, and Lassiter's new job which I certainly didn't see coming.

I know the reviews for this book were all over the place, but I found it hard to put down and enjoyed how it wrapped up. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
