Hi!

I noticed in the games forum that someone recently started a Homeschool Virtual box. I was excited, but upon reading the details was a little disappointed to find that one of the restrictions is that less than 25% of your offer must consist of non-religious materials. Almost everything I have, especially for trade, is religious. LOL

SO. I was wondering if there was any interest in a Christian Homeschool virtual box, where it is encouraged to share materials that are specifically Christian, supplements to those, and of course anything else you might have would be welcome. (I'd not want to step into the realm of the other box, so I'd like to keep it as much specifically Christian as possible, but we wouldn't disallow any math programs etc. And it would include things like classic literature - much of which is included on lists from Ambleside, Sonlight, and Classical Christian Homeschooling.)

Anyway. I'm not certain how soon I could start it, but I was wondering if there was interest. Also, if anyone else CAN start it now and wants to, please do! (The only reason I can't start it now is because I don't have the credits to contribute to it... so if someone else starts it, I may PM you and ask if you could possibly float me the credits until I have them to contribute. I'll gladly go last and contribute to the box. LOL)

So. Any interest?

Some ideas: anything listed in the reading lists of the curriculums/sites I listed above, as well as supplements to and curriculums including Mystery of History, anything by Rod & Staff or Alpha Omega Press, any Bible curriculum, Bibles themselves, books and workbooks related to Bible study, anything by My Father's World... and I'm certain that there are Christian curriculums out there that I'm missing. Anything that is a specifically Christian curriculum, anything on the "recommended supplements/reading list" for those curriculums, and anything with a specifically Christian spin on the material (think: creation science).

I think you have a great idea, there. My problem with games is the whole banking of several credits. I simply don't have credits to spare for that sort of thing.

Hi DaLynn,

I am participating in the other Homeschool swap, and have several times.  I really enjoy it.  I would be interested in a Christian one too, though.  That sounds great!

I do not think I have enough knowledge about these swaps to actually run one.  Have you run one before?  Blessings, Carrie

I've not run one before, and probably wouldn't start it soon. AND, I see in the thread on the games (and will PM that hostess in a moment) that she is asking about the needs of the hsers participating in that swap and if they'd like to include more religious materials etc. It even reads as though maybe this same hostess also hosts a religious-based box at other times in the year? If so, more power to her, and I hope I have credits to join when that box is up and running! I'm new around here and didn't realize (or even think about the possibility) that she may simply rotate secular and religious homeschool boxes. If this need is already being filled, - YAY! I'll watch for it to open!! :)

No, mostly my wheels are turning. It'd likely be a couple of months before I was ready to hostess any swap at all. I'm new to the boards, new to PBS (November), and new to swaps here. I just saw that box pop up and then was disappointed to realize that I probably couldn't play much in it due to the materials I have is all, and thought I'd see how many others may be in the same sort of situation.

So, if you're out there, speak up! Even if I'm not the hostess, and there is a box alternation already going for this type of thing, it is always good to know how much interest there is and that a swap is filling a need/want for board participants. :)

I would like to see a swap that was you can contribute up to 50% religious but you don't have to. Meaning if you have secular you could post all secular but if you had some religious you could post that too. I guess we probably go 50%-50% with secular and religious since we use some Rod & Staff and some Alpha Omega. I also use some sonlight but its mainly just reading books and they aren't technically religious (things like Mother Goose aren't really religious per say just because they are in the curriculum for sonlight.)

Would people be more interested if you could post 50% that is religious? Because I have a hard time doing all secular or all religious. Just my two cents.

Hey guys! Glad to see the interest for homeschool swapping. I can always find something to swap ( I have kids from college level to pre-school LOL!)

Erika I posted almost exactly what you said in the thread on the games board earlier. 50/50

Welcome to PBS DaLynn!

This is the kind of swap box that I could get into!

I have a lot of items from different Christian curriculums just sitting around here. We've used an eclectic approach to our unit studies since my youngest was in 3rd grade. Now that she is in high school, I've really started trying to get rid of things that are too young for them.

I especially hate trying to post the ABeka materials on here because of no isbn codes. Some I had posted as freebies, just to get them out of the house!

Like several others have posted, I would need to earn a few credits before joining in this game. I haven't done any games since joining this summer. It sounds like it would be fun!

Margaret (the lady running the homeschool box) is thinking about switching it to 50% next time around. If you have interest in something like that, you should PM her.
