According to many observers, education is in a state of crisis - declining academic standards, literacy crisis, a moral value crisis, and more. What is the role of Christian schools and how do they accomplish their purpose?

In this book, John Bolt develops a philosophy of Christian education based on a narrative approach. The book examines some of the dominant themes in contemporary culture, identifying the consequences of individualism, secularism, pluralism. The study explores several "Christian" threats to Christian educaiton. The author concludes that the Christian school is a community of memory and makes a significant contribution to the understanding of the place and purpose of Christian schools in the contemporary world.

Dr. Bolt is Professor of Systematic Theology at Calvin Theological Seminary and an experienced educator.
