This novel was originally written in Japanese and then translated into English by Lawrence Rogers. Although the copyright is 1990, it was first published in 1949, not long after WW II which is the time period of the story.
I very much enjoyed this book and the way it is written from a Japanese viewpoint and style. Under the title of the book is written "A Novel of Youth Spent at War". It begins with the main character still a student at Tokyo Imperial University just before the war with the U.S. and ends just after Hiroshima. I give this book 5 stars and encourage you to read it.
