This was a very interesting book. I read "Out of Africa" and it was very romantic; this book not so much. This is more about the every day life of the settlers and how Karen Blixon tried to emotionally tie him down. Denys Finch Hatton was a very complex man that had a hard time making commitments so that didn't go quite like the romance in Karen's Out of Africa.

If you like to learn about these people - another good read is "Into the Night" the story of Beryl Markham his other great love.
