I loved this historical fiction about China. It was long (650 pages) and took me forever to read but I loved every minute and hated for it to end. However, the ending was little bit disappointing.

Interesting story that follows the political turmoil in China during the very early 1900's when individuals were fighting for independence. The book also follows one mixed race couple's struggle to live with extraordinary prejudice in both China and America. The reader is engaged with the people and their children growing up. I gave it a low score because I felt the book was much too long. D.

"An epic saga of a forbidden love..." Drawing on her grandparents own story, the author gives us a tale of true love that spans four decades.
Also, the history is fasinating as the story shows the brutality of China as it was struggling to change.
This is a very romantic story and a wonderful portrayal of the historical turmoil of the period.
