This is a short (221 pages) but fascinating account from many angles. First there was the selection of men, then their training, at the same time while they were developing new concepts and equipment for the raid.

Once the raid was on, the book details what occurred during the days it took to get to the enemy ships, including the loss of some of the raid participants. After successfully damaging some ships, it then relates the survivors escape into unknown French territory and the search for assistance from the French Resistance. From there the reader encounters how the two men were passed on to different "safe house" and the risks the French ran. This is a good lean-in to that aspect of the war for those who are unfamiliar with it. Including the freedom and dangers of being in "neutral" Spain.

Finally, there is the aftermath, the telling of bad news to those the men left behind in Great Britain. Finally, after the war, the British discover what happened to those who were captured.
