Just finished reading the second book in the Smoky Barrett Series, "Face of Death".
This has got to be the darkest book I have ever read.  The perpetrator, known as the Stranger, was such a well thought out character or should I say his crimes were very well written if that makes.  Who thinks of doing these kinds of things to people!?
That poor Sarah who was tossed around into one bad situation after another.
Anyway, I am hooked on this series.  Even though there are some horrific scenes, its the way its written, the choices people had to make in this book that linger.  I just had to write a seperate post on this.  Would love to hear what others have thought when they read this book.
Carol - you warned me about the dog.  I didn't have nightmares but so sad!  I was stuck so much on the moral dilemma's this poor girl witnessed and went through.  It was so tangled as people did things to protect people they loved.
Looking forward to reading book 3.

It is a dark series, and I'm not sure why we all seem to love it so much?!  The writing is excellent, that is probably the main reason.  I'm still waiting on the 4th, Abandoned.  I pre-ordered it in the paperback and it is on it's way.  Before pbs, my sister always got my books when I was done, these days she knows that if she is wanting a specific book from me, she had better tell me in advanced!  And this is one that she has spoken for!

I'm glad you didn't get nightmares!  But, I bet you won't forget that scene.....ever!

I don't think I will forget the book!  The whole thing could give you nightmares but, yes that was a scene was shocking.  Trying to explain to my husband all that transpired was so challenging but, I had to talk to someone about it.  Everyone's actions were somehow connected to another.   This was even better than the first book.  Not sure how you write a better one after this.  But, I look forward to reading the next two.  Both are on my wish list.

I've read:

1. SHADOW MAN (7/07)

2. THE FACE OF DEATH (read 7/07)

Can hardly wait for the next one. There are some authors that can't seem to write fast enough. This is one of them.

Anyone know of other authors with similar writings?
