Hello from NYC.  I just joined yesterday and was thrilled that so many of the books I put up are already going to find new homes.  I know it will take time for the items I am looking for to be able to make their way to me so I wait with anticipation :)

My husband is a big comic book guy.  None of the ones we have are of any value (they are not collectable) but they could be enjoyed by someone else.  They have a UPC code but no ISDN.  Is there any way to list them?  I have read that items that are not considered appropriate for PBS can still be offered up to others.  If the comic books cannot be officially listed, what would be the appropriate way to offer them to someone?

Many thanks for your help.

Madelon

The rule is:

Not allowed:

  • Anything that contains advertising (such as single-issue comic books or comic book digests or magazines)

You cannot trade "Not Allowed" items for credits (with the specific exception of ARCs), you can only offer "Allowed" items that otherwise do not meet posting requirements (for example a water damaged book).

Welcome to PBS, Madelon! I'm glad that you are enjoying your stay with us. :)

Regarding your question, the rules say that single-issue comic books cannot be posted because they often contain advertising. However, you may want to check out the Book Bazaar. Non swappable items can be exchanged there just make sure you read the rules of the forum to see if they make any exceptions for comic books.

Thank you both for the fast and informative responses.  I am pleased to also learn that there is a way to offer an Advanced Reader Copy book appropriately.  I found one in my husbands "stash."

I know I have much more to learn about how to use PBS effectively and appropriately.  I appreciate the assistance.

If he has any trade paperbacks of comics those usually will have an ISBN and can be traded here.  You can also add them to your WL or search the available books to receive new ones to read.

Non-swappable (nonbook) items can't be exchanged in the Bazaar for credits, only non-postable book items such as damaged books or ARCs can.

Because comics do not qualify to be swapped because they are not elligilbe for media mail, it don't think they would be allowed to be offered for credits, only as freebies offered with a request of a swappable item and then you'd have to send them FC or higher class postage and that may get expensive. You may want to send in Feedback via the Contact Us link in the lower right to find out for certain if they can be offered for credits before doing so.
