Book Reviews of Complete Abandon

I wasn't a reader of Cheryl Holt novels before, and I kind of doubt I will be again. But I'm going to try to be fair here. I thought I would read something by Ms. Holt since I had never read anything by her before, and I was looking for a new romance author. The two stars I grant Complete Abandon might actually be a 2.5. This is not a such a badly written book -- its story moves along, and it's not boring (though I found myself skimming toward the end, I must admit).

I've discovered that this type of writing - the character development and plot devices chosen by this author - are not my preference in romance fiction. Ms. Holt reminded me a little of Bertice Small's older novels, which is good as far as that goes, (she's certainly very, um, direct, like Bertice, with a touch of perversity) but nowadays I generally prefer a little subtlety in my romance reading. So the hero's oversexed "cockstands" (yes, that's what she calls 'em), and the immediately horny heroine, put me off. It all seems so smutty. If you prefer your romance reading very "up front", with a touch of perversity (in this book, the Vicar with the taste for little girls comes to mind --uggh.) then Cheryl Holt is the author for you. Ms. Holt just isn't one that I prefer.

Love the author and the book. I have not really found of book of hers that I really did not like.

This book had me hooked from the first page and never let go. This is the second book I've read by Ms. Holt and I will definitely be reading more from her.

Loved the story line. A good love story plus a lot of hot romance.

I don't always love Cheryl Holt but I liked this book, steamy and a good story. Not the usual romance.

Emma Fitzgerald accidently is witness to Viscount Wakefield and his mistress in an incounter. She is outraged at his behavior, but why does it make her feel so strange? She takes him to task and ends up making a bargain with him. One that a Vicars daughter would never make.

Emma is my favorite Holt heroine!

i think this falls in the category of early erotica. very steamy.

Great author!

This was the first book I read from this author. I actually was going to read Forbidden Fantasty from Cheryl Holt when I realized that was the 2nd book in this series. Therefore I read Complete Abandon first.

I liked the story line and the characters. I just had a little issue with the motivations behind the Viscount Wakefield's decision at the end of the book.

However, it is an overall good book.
